    1. As convoluted as the labyrinthine catacombs under running the city of Paris so too Adele Blanc Sec 2 is a tortuous mess at every level Just like the innumerable skulls of the dead that dot these paths, my brain felt as vacuous as those de skinned, lifeless leftovers Sadly, I m still alive so I have to write a review. This second offering, while nothing to do with William S Burroughs, felt like it was done in the same manner as The Naked Lunch Characters, actions, and their results are all choppe [...]

    2. The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc Sec comes back Volume 2 The Mad Scientist and Mummies on Parade Jacques Tardi is my favorite living comic book artist from France, and of course I have favorites in Japan, but let s not confuse categories and things Volume 2 is mood narratives that fall in the French pulp genre then anything else Things can happen any moment and time and our hero Adele seems to never have a night s sleep with assassins breaking into her apartment, and strange phone ca [...]

    3. Picking up immediately following the events of the first Fantagraphics collection, The Extraordinary Adventures of Ad le Blanc Sec Vol 2 continues the unusual escapades of the novelist title character In 1912 Paris, Blanc Sec uncovers plots involving mad scientists, a pithecanthropus prehistoric ape man , murder, betrayal, and the undead Though the concepts and action propel the tale, the droll heroine with her asides and astute observations drives these fantastic comics After a second attempt o [...]

    4. Mycket b ttre n f rsta volymen Nu k nner vi karakt rerna och roligt r det att varje referens i handlingen r exakt densamma, See The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc Sec 1.F rsta volymen var lite platt i handlingen, men andra volymen kar takten lite Karakt rer terv nder och alla ber ttelser h nger ihop och skapar en helhet verraskande slut, f r det hade jag inte f rv ntat.

    5. Slightly disappointed by these two volumes I d never read any Tardi before, so maybe this wasn t the best to start with, but I found them very slow Now, the artwork is incredible, and I love the setting and the tone, but the plotting and dialogue were often glacial, and the main character, Adele, was curiously passive things happened to her but she herself rarely seemed to do anything The back of the second volume of this edition carries a blurb saying that these books are a parody of the standa [...]

    6. I liked this volume a lot than the first Plot twists are a bit less chaotic, but still make the story a bit too confusing But somehow Tardi manages to tie things together and give it all sense of meaning in the fourth and final book actually part two in this volume Maybe the reason I like it is that I just got used to the absurd things that all the characters were doing and just let it all take it s own course Do the things the characters do make any sense No But if you can live with that and y [...]

    7. There s been some improvement compared to the first two albums or the one by fantagraphics Characters are still all the same without distinct characteristics, but the story has some interest in context of being a parody of the detective stories with the extreme outcomes Tardi seems to have taken it seriously to be not serious, and the result is much better than the first two Big plus that Adele starts to show some emotion at least The edition by Fanta is at the highest standards, as always.

    8. I kept reading this series after a baffling first volume, and I m glad I did Jacques Tardi s bizarre supernatural tinged adventures are overtly humorous in this volume, if no comprehensible than his earlier stories of Mlle Blanc Sec.There are still double crosses, mistaken identities, disguises, and conspiracies It is still difficult to tell the conspirators apart But it hardly seems to matter There is a swirl of treachery and deceit around Mlle Blanc Sec, and if one man is a villain and anoth [...]

    9. If you liked the first edition of The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc Sec, you ll like this oneAdele is her usual distinctive self, narrowly escaping death from her conspirators as a giant gorilla is made into a manservant and is aimed to be made into a murderer as well and then mummies come to life The premises of all of these episodes are preposterous, involving fault Science and underground French cults This book sees Adele choosing widely not to accept a ticket on the Titanic and nev [...]

    10. I m reading these backwards And I would be lying if I didn t say that my interest stemmed from the Luc Besson film The Extraordinary Adventures of Ad le Blanc Sec Quite frankly, I loved the film The visuals were amazing, the story humorous and, well, extraordinary, and the lead character quite fun I was aware in it s beginnings as graphic novels but I didn t really give the idea of reading them too much thought until I happened upon volume 2 at the library In these continuing stories of Ad le Bl [...]

    11. The second volume of Jacques Tardi s Blanc Sec adventures picks up right where volume 1 left off There are many familiar faces with familiar motivesd Adele always seems to be at the center of the mayhem A wonderful mix of supernatural fantasy and mystery with turn of the century Paris as the ever constant backdrop There are moments when the story gets a little bit convolutedd it makes me wish I could read French to read it in the original language, because although the story is still witty, I m [...]

    12. I wasn t exactly thrilled with the stories in this collection Tardi basically throws every plot thread and from the previous volume into The Mad Scientist, and Mummies on Parade ends on a huge downer, one which I m not sure exactly fits with the nature of the series That being said, I would have to give the artwork 5 stars Tardi s cartooning is exceptional, and his environments are detailed, accurate, and incredibly expressive I love Adele Blanc Sec, I just think she deserves better stories, an [...]

    13. A mish mash of pulpy goodness, odd situations, absurd costumes, plot twists that baffle and bizarre beasts populate the pages.Although I was often confused about the train of events, who was allied with whom, who was betraying whom and in general what the heck was going on I did enjoy this unique comic.Adele herself is a heroine whom I can get behind, facing danger with only the twitch of an eyebrow and never playing the damsel in distress.

    14. I had never heard of Adele Blanc Sec until I saw the trailer for the recent movie adaptation, but it seemed like the kind of thing I d enjoy, so I tracked it down I did quite enjoy it, but I managed to get the second volume first again, somehow I have this problem a lot and so I was a bit at sea trying to read it in spots Maybe I ll come back and take a second look after I ve read the original.

    15. Extra star for this one, mostly because of the hilarious pell mell conclusion of the second adventure, which was most enjoyable And it s possibly even prettier than the first book Side note in the first book, none of the characters open their mouths when speaking In this one, two of them do I have no point here, I m just noticing.

    16. The art is very good but the plot is not clear It s again confusing as the two previous volumes, all time with notes see The demon of the Eiffel Tower or Adele and the Beast I love the recreation of Paris, but I don t like the dialogues The situation when the pithecanthrope awakes is very disappointing.

    17. Too confusing When there are asides breakin the 4th wall referencing how the readers must be confused, you know it s confusing to even the author Plus, again, all the men look the same and have really long names.

    18. the complexity and reversals of the first volume are doubled down in the second volume and the whole thing collapses under its own weight, the 4th wall is broken and the tragic waste of time aims to sell you on one of Tardi s much better and far cohesive works.

    19. Still as mad cap laughing as ever, with an irresistably carefree approach to plot, sense, and seriousness, Tardi s work is growing on me.

    20. Again, the art was fabulous and the world building was really interesting, but the plots themselves didn t really get me sucked in.Additionally, I was not pleased with the cat murdering psychopath.

    21. A fun adventure comic Reminiscent of turn of the century literature 18 or maybe 1900 How can you go wrong reanimating ancient beings and trying to find the mummies that ran off
